First Grade Newsletter-Vol. 1-October 2010

Seymour Elementary Students Sailing to Success in 2010-2011

SAIL is the acronym for the new campus-wide positive behavior support initiative that has been put in place at Seymour Elementary during the 2010-2011 school year.
All students will be taught and encouraged to SAIL to Success as they...
S - Show Respect
A - Act Responsibly
I - Interact Appropriately
L - Listen to Learn

The first six weeks of school has passed by quickly!  Learning new rules, routines, teachers, and classmates have been the main focus of this time.  Our new SAIL to Success program has been a great success!  Our hallway, cafeteria, and restroom behavior has improved tremendously.  Students are rewarded with tickets when they are caught behaving good outside of the classroom.  The tickets are given to Mrs. Exum at the end of the week.  On Monday morning, Mrs. Exum draws a name from each grade level and that student gets a prize.  Our first graders are raking in the tickets and we are so proud of their hard work!

New Grading System for 1st Grade
This year there is a new grading system 1st grade will use to help evaluate student progress. Number grades may still be used, but it will reflect the following meaning:
95-100 = E  (Exceeds 1st Grade TEKS expectations/Benchmarks)
80-94 = S  (Satisfies 1st Grade TEKS expectations/Benchmarks)
70-79 = N  (Needs assistance to meet 1st Grade TEKS expectations/Benchmarks)
69 or below = U  (Under 1st grade level TEKS expectations/Benchmarks)
If you have questions about your child’s grades, please contact his/her teacher.
